Yup, it’s that time of year again when you drive down milledge and see all the sorority girls in their nice dresses, singing, well screaming, to PNMs to make a good impresion in hopes that they’ll join their sorority. Lots of small talk is made about what dorms their living in and what they did in high school… and then judgments are given by both sides. It’s quite a stressful and anxious time for all.
As I sit here, in my last week of my internship, I actually kind of miss the long days of work week, I mean “Spirit” Week, and all the sisterly bonding time. It brings the sorority closer together and can be a couple of really fun weeks. People love to judge sororities as being a buncha fake girls who “pay for their friends,” but it’s so much more than that. The friendships made and life lessons given through your four years in a sorority are truly invaluable, not to mention the opportunities given to you in your alum years. Being the outgoing person that I am, I am 110 percent positive that I would have made plenty of friends had I not joined a sorority, but I love being surrounded with a group of girls with similar interests and having fun, organized events such as socials, date nights and formals.
Although I have missed out on this one last year of sisterly bonding during recruitment, I do get some say in our new pledge class coming in, as I will be at recruitment on Saturday & Sunday. All in all, I think that every freshman girl should rush. It’s a great way to meet people and acclimate to UGA. I met a few of my best friends that first week, and although it was long, hot and tiring, I wouldn’t change it for the world. To all my sisters who start recruitment tomorrow–GOOD LUCK, I can’t wait to see all our new squirrel babies! & to all you youngins’ rushing, GOOD LUCK, it will all work out how it is supposed to in the end, and I wish I was you, because you’re about to have the most amazing 4 years of your life.
