Memorial Weekend Exceeded Expectations

First– As promised here is the link to my first *Official* Press Release about Memorial Day Weekend that I did for my internship at the Atlanta Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. Exciting!! =]
Memorial Day Weekend Brings Music, Festivals, and a New 3D Spectacular

I have to say, I didn’t think I would enjoy staying home in Johns Creek this weekend, but I actually had a lot of fun! I kicked off my weekend on Friday morning with a planned list of what I wanted to get done for the day… I’m pretty sure I didn’t do a single thing on that list. I had an 8am dentist appointment.. I know what was I thinking right? Turns out I actually woke up 15 minutes before my alarm went off because I am so used to getting up before dawn every other day. So, of course my teeth are beautiful and perfect, even after not going to the dentist for a year (whoops). I don’t know how people can have bad teeth though, like come on people don’t you like your breath to smell good, and have pretty teeth for pictures? Maybe I just care too much haha. Anyways… on to my next adventure–I stopped by the good ole Atlanta Athletic Club to see Brock-my old manager and friend. It was good catching up and hearing about all the exciting, or not so exciting, things going on in each others lives. I planned on hitting up the pool and the mall.. allocating a sold 2 hours to each place.. but instead I sat around the house like a bum, packed for the lake and got a–much needed– manicure/pedicure with mommy.

Here is where the weekend really began… Lake Lanier with my bestie Kara, her younger sister (and basically my younger sister too) Kylee, Kylee’s friend Lexie and Kara/Kylee’s dad. We had this GREAT camping spot on a peninsula where they had rented out 2 connecting campgrounds that looked right out onto the lake, with beach access and pure perfection. We got there around 5 and set up camp- much to my amazement I had remembered from going camping with Brad a few times. Kara and I set up the huge tent all by ourselves—I was pretty proud, not gonna lie. Kylee and Lexie blew up all the airmatresses as they thought putting tents together was “too much work.” I guess you can say it was more luxurious camping– air mattresses, portable plugs, iPod system, grill…. bathrooms… we like to camp in style. Since we were so close to Cumming, Ga and had to make a Wal-Mart trip anyways, we decided to go to Taco Mac… which I just happened to be big time craving all week. The whole adventure was a highly entertaining experience with the 120320428 drink choices from the new Coca Cola machine and Kylee proposing to Kara in the middle of Wal-Mart—acting like a giant goof ball the entire time we were in the store. Definitely felt 16 again–but can’t say I didn’t enjoy just a little bit of carefree, innocent, childish fun. By this time it had gotten pretty late so we headed back to the camp ground and sat around the fire roasting some marshmellows. Did you know they make flat marshmellows now too–just for smore making? Tried them–cool idea, but the regular ones are just so much better. Not a smore without the giant marshmellow bulging out of the sides of the grahm cracker. MMMMmmmm GOOD. We headed to bed around midnight–perfect temperature for camping (60 degrees =]). The next day we woke up to a beautiful sunny lakeside, perfect view. Kara and I went on a relaxing run around the campground, enjoying people watching and the views. By the time we got back we just threw on our bathing suits and jumped into the lake…while spending most of the day relaxing on the giant inner tube, taking fun and crazy pictures. It was a great getaway, as I can never get too much lake time! I had to head home early afternoon though since I had a  family coming in town for my brother’s graduation.

Now the good thing about graduation is all the free food. Surprisingly, I lost weight this weekend– but you would have never guessed with  massive amounts of food I ate. On Saturday I ate way too much Maggiano’s, which was  absolutelyamazing. I had forgotten how good their food was. I just hung around with a couple of old track friends, and met a bunch of my brother’s friends as well. Saturday night was even better when my friend my friend Ashley, her friend Nadia and I all went to go see the Hangover 2. I enjoyed it, and it was a good laugh–but definitely not as good, in my opinion, as the first one was. We did miss the last 5 minutes though because our projector kept going out–so unfortunately I didn’t get to see the photo reel–but you know what we did end up getting free tickets out of it so I’m not mad about it!

Sunday was another fun-filled, busy day. I helped my mom out with some light cooking and ran a few errands. Then we had company over for a few hours before graduation just snacking and hanging out. Graduation was at 6 at Verizon Wireless Ampitheater. Great venue–but a LITTLE TOO HOT for May. We were all drenched in sweat and it was disgusting. My brother is now officially a HS Grad and off to Western Kentucky in the fall to play tennis–way to go little bro!

On to Memorial Day– filled with lots of shopping. I got up early and went to Shoe Gallery with my mom for their “Early Bird Special” Shoe sale. Got 2 pairs of shoes and a cute shirt there– not complaining. I decided against going to boot camp because I felt really sick–and couldn’t  to save my life. I finally gave in and went to the doctor–as much as I hate it. So I spent the next hour and a half at the Northside Urgent Care and turns out–SURPRISE I have a sinus infection. I wish I could just call in and be like I have this, give me this, instead of wasting my time at the doctors. Oh well– The steroids started working almost immediately and I am on an antibiotic for the next 10 days as well– feeling so much better today. After that ordeal, mom, nana and I headed off to the Forum for some more shopping! I got some cute shirts, a dress and more shoes! Gotta love shopping with mom. We ended the day with a celebratory Graduation dinner at our all time favorite, but too expensive restaurant–Stoney River. If you haven’t eaten there… GO. Best bread and steaks possible. I had the Cabin Filet and Garlic Mashed Potatoes. YUM. By that time, I was full-tired and off to bed.

Definitely the most successful Memorial Day Weekend in a long time! This week is a 3 day work week then off to Athens to hangout with friends and pick up some extra cash!! I’m bartending at Allen’s Friday night, serving early Sat and Bartending Sunday–so come by and keep me company!! =]
